Introduction
2024 was full of twists and turns and ended in a really unexpected manner. Without going into too many details, I reached the lowest point of my life, and ultimately ended up being pulled from a bridge. I then spent the next 7 weeks trying to pick myself up and find some glimmer of hope to cling to in order to make it to 2025. Well, all I can say is… I’m still here! And that feels like an achievement in itself. Still, trying to be the optimist and giving myself goals to focus on, I’ve made a list of things that I’d like to achieve in 2025:
Fitness
Primarily, I want to focus on being consistent in 2025 and getting back to training at least 3 or 4 times a week. I’ve then set out some milestones that I’d like to reach:
Run a half marathon
I’d like to build up my endurance again so that I can run a half marathon without any walking intervals. I haven’t run in months, so I’d probably struggle to run a mile again at the minute…
Run 10k under 60 minutes
This wouldn’t be a personal best time, but it’s definitely something that I want to aim for in 2025. Most of my runs will be at a slower pace as I ease myself back in and try to build my endurance.
Run 5k under 30 minutes
As my mileage increases, I’m hoping that I can get back under 30 minutes for my 5k. My previous best was 25:58, but I know that I’m miles away from that at the moment!
Get back to strength training
I’ve lost a lot of muscle definition over the past two years, so I’d like to get back to strength training to help build it back up. Ideally, I’ll sign back up to the gym and do 3 full body sessions a week.
Health
2025 is hopefully going to be a year of self-love and improvement, and that includes looking after my health.
Reach 130 lbs
My aim was to get under 140lbs by the end of 2024, and with the help of a depressive episode and a crash diet of little eating, I made it! The goal for 2025 is to get to 130lbs, or ideally 125lbs, but in a healthier and more sustainable manner.
Eat more protein
This ties in with the healthier and more sustainable part, and also links with my strength training and wanting to build muscle. Being vegetarian can make getting adequate protein a bit harder, but I have found some tasty recipes to try.
Drink more water
This is a recurring goal for me, and one that I normally end up failing. Remembering to drink often proves quite troublesome, even with the help of reminders and apps!
Mental Health
With such a rocky end to 2024, my mental health is a big priority for me in 2025. I need to make sure that I spend time doing things that I enjoy and don’t lose myself for the needs of other people.
Treatment
I’m currently undergoing therapy, so will be continuing with this into 2025. I’ll also be continuing with my antidepressants for the foreseeable future.
Friends and family
Spend more time with the people that I care about and share how I’m feeling.
Self-care
Take time to do the things that I enjoy and make time for myself.
Growth
For 2025, I want to expand my knowledge in different areas and try to challenge myself. I feel like over the past 2 years or so I got to a really comfortable place in life and stopped pushing myself.
Read at least 1 book per month
Since getting my Kindle last year I’ve been reading a lot more. I much prefer using an ereader to reading a physical book! Lately most of the books I’ve been reading are self-help oriented, but I do love a good crime thriller too.
Complete my PT qualification
I’m currently sat at 87% complete, so it’d be nice to just get this finished, even if I don’t end up using it… just another feather in the cap, as they say!
Get out of my comfort zone
This is a scary one to write! I spend a lot of time in my comfort zone, but growth only tends to happen when you leave it, so that’s the challenge for 2025. To be honest, I did surprise myself at the end of 2024 and drove over a 100-mile round trip for a job interview, so hopefully I can build on that for 2025.
Financial
To be honest, these aren’t high priority targets, but they are things that I feel could be useful.
Don’t impulse buy
Undiagnosed ADHD and hobby-hopping can lead to a few impulse purchases. With that being said, I have gotten a lot better at waiting things out before buying. I’m trying to lead a more minimalistic lifestyle, so want to avoid impulse or unnecessary purchases.
Avoid using my credit card
To tie in with not impulse buying I also want to refrain from using my credit card where I can. I’ll be hoping to save some money to either put towards a house deposit or on visiting my friend in Austria.
Hobbies
Being consistent in my hobbies can be tricky as I tend to jump from one thing to another! For 2025, I want the focus to be on health and fitness, which ties in with my blog, and also on my Pokémon trading card game hobby.
Blog regularly
I should have more free time in 2025 to dedicate to fitness and also writing again, so I’d like to be able to go back to posting at least once a week. Maybe that’s too optimistic, but the goal is to post once a month at the very minimum.
Attend Pokémon TCG events
My anxiety can make this one tricky, but it’s something that I really want to work on in 2025. I’d love to be able to attend the larger events, but need to get more comfortable with my local weekly league events first! It could also be a way for me to meet some new people and grow my social circle.
Conclusion
After the rough ending to 2024, 2025 can only get better, surely? I find that having things to work towards can help me to with motivation and give me a sense of purpose. Hopefully by focusing on my mental health as well as my physical health and fitness, I can get myself into a better position to be ending 2025! Onwards and upwards as they say, or in the words of D:Ream, things can only get better…
